Awww... c’mon Davey.... don’t be like that!!!

If you would just get outdoors a couple days and apply yourself, you’d have your hundred coyotes in a couple of checks. ‘Specially with that there central AB population!!!

Isn’t there a forum rule? “No Whining”???

If last weekend was any indication they are all feasting on the roadkill littering our highways, where they are safe from rifle fire.

I'm seeing low numbers but what I'm catching has been awesome quality! Both big dogs and beautiful fur. I think some cold and snow should pick things up.

Agreed dave, there is little to no action around. I drive to onaway everyday from stony plain since mid November and have seen one coyote.

We are on pace to equal last year but I will admit its been a hard go without snow . Baits arent getting hit so we've branched out and set trails up to 400 yds either side of baits .

I did not trap at all in November this year, to busy at work ! I set a lot of snares since last week so I'm hoping to bring some furs in my shed this week. I wish all of you a great trapping season !

It's not just coyote, nothing is moving around here except the Deer, which are in rut so I suppose that's why they are moving.

Here, it's not that there are less Coyotes then last year. In fact there seems to be more. They just aren't moving where I would normally see them.

I see tracks, lots of tracks, but in the heavy timber, not out in the open like I usually do.

I don't know why, maybe the mouse population crashed so they are hunting rabbits in the thick stuff.

Too warm, nothing moving. It’s the same for everyone that i’ve Talked to. Except Rob, Rob always catches coyotes no matter what......:)

I hunted hard for 3 days last week in the Olds area expecting to get a few. Boy was I wrong! Lots of tracks but only saw 2 at distance and they did not respond favourably to my calls, one actually bolted in the opposite direction. That's the challenge, back next week.

3 things I can think of for the few dog sightings .. first we just got done with deer season and the barrage of gunfire that each and every dog has been subjected to , some are educated , some are dead ... second , with the high price that coyotes fetched last couple years anybody with a rifle is suddenly a predator hunter , whether calling or drive bys its pressure that keeps dogs out of sight .. and last its like you say Dave, it's just plain too warm , lots of mice and no need to expose themselves in daylight hours to eat . The Christmas holidays with the seasonal hunters it brings with it will further put a damper on coyote sightings . Snares will still be working 24/7 and tho coyotes arent hitting baits they still have to eat and travel , we've moved our sets out away from them and are targeting trails and using random sets to set up a web of snares . My son has had good luck near one bait , with 6 caught first set and 15 in last 13 days ... none within 15 yds of the bait .

Ya it's slow, I only managed 13 yesterday, but the one location was very slow for odd reasons. I guess it was only 1/2 day tho too, I spent some time setting in the morning real close to home for the big audit. Guess we need the moon to go super.

I have been having decent luck managed 17 today only lost about 5 percent to mites and mange this year as well. Way down from the past cupel years. Should be better this week looks like some colder temps and snow coming in.

17 in one day! If I took that many here I'd have to move to the next county to find more!
LOL Well not quiet but I would for sure have to move several miles to find more.

I have never seen a mangey Coyote or one with so many ticks it was worthless.

You folks must have a whole lot more Coyotes then we do. And we thought we had Coyote problems. I can't even imagine what it would be like having that many around.

I was chatting with Huntin this evening. He's been whacking the wolves big time this fall. And he's set up well back in heavy bush country.

He tells me he has Coyote coming in to his bait piles, even when Wolves are present. He has photos of up to five on the bait at one time.

So now I know where they are which is what I suspected. Most years they would be hunting the fields hard under the conditions we have, but not this year.

But I am seeing more track in the last couple of days. And it has been colder.

I only hope the Elk start moving into the fields in the next few days. I'm almost out of time.

Yup, not a lot of interest for coyotes to travel much around here. Going on two weeks with nothing at three bait sites. I already took the locals out of there and nothing is in a hurry to move in. It happened the El Niño year as well.

Last Wednesday I started two new bait sites in different areas and they’ve been getting hit hard. Snares went up today and I’ll check on Wednesday. Time to become a nomad and start new bait sites as catches start tapering off at existing ones.

I guess that if the coyotes don’t come to me I’ll have to go to the Yotes. :)

That is definitely your best strategy to stay in the game...

Keep plugging away, Dude. The smaller ones are worth as much as the big ones unless they are really small. :happy0034:

Oh yeah still going no worries there, got some wolves hitting the bait now so see how it goes. Could use some snow. The slowness is okay with me gives me time to work on my skinning. I got a long ways to go to skin flesh and board in 9 min :scared0018:

Not me.

My neighber called last night. She saw five Elk half a mile from my house and I have a tag to fill. Just waiting for daylight to start tracking.

Dang it Davey... dang it anyways...

I have a math problem for you tonite. I finally went and operated my stopwatch on my iPhone. I had to skin 4 coyotes, and I decided after skinning to time the fleshing and stretching, including ear cartilage yankin' and "pinning"

Now I didn't time the skinning on the 4 but i am quite certain they were all 3 minute kiyutes. It went very well, likely they was all 3 minute kiyutes. Let's allocate 4 x 3.5 minutes on them = 14 minutes MAX. (Was definitely under)

Fleshing + Ear Yankin' + Stretching x4 = 28 minutes

No turning required.

Just gotta yank 'em off stretcher and brief brushin'

Dang it Davey... can you handle such a math equation?

Not???

I didn't rush.

Fleshing 10x better than your beam. I'm gonna drum them yet too but that is extra-curricular, and then theys gonna shine like nothing else!

You have lost the game... horribly!

Boo Hoo

Dave, you aren’t really a superhero, I was just yankin’ your ear cartilage last week! It even fooled a guy named Robert! Isn’t that funny?
