I’ve never been to Sulphur Gates but have been in past Big Grave on the Cow Lick Trail and into Monaghan from Rock Lake and not seen any sign of elk.

I was in with a group September 2017 for 10 days. We went in with horses from rock lake. We saw sheep, goats, moose, bears, wolves and a few deer here and there... in 10 days 5 guys covering a lot of ground saw exactly 0 elk.

One of the best trips I have been on in an incredible place, just no elk.

Cheers

I've spent a few weeks back there over the past few years. The elk hunt there is pretty hard: tough terrain, long trek back to the truck, and only 6pt bulls (or better lol) and there are not a lot of them. I think the guys with horses might fare better, but it's still a tough go. Maybe that's "normal" Rocky mountain elk hunting? I'm not super experienced.

Just whitetails? Or did you run into any mule deer up there?
