Xmas lights, do you take them down?

What type of as system are you using to place your lights up, I have a two story and do not want to go up there every year to put lights up, what is the best way to secure and make sure they stay there. those plastic clips will not work, and have no eaves on the peaks of home. Thanks

Hate it, hate it, need a pellet rifle andor like I said to the wife the other day...tie that string to the back of the quad......next year it's one of those stick in the ground display type or Xmas in Cuba :sHa_shakeshout:

An old neighbour of mine used to leave them up. A hailstorm wiped them out one summer. Quite a mess.

Next year I’m looking at LED light strips for a permanent install. Very low profile - the only question is how long will they last exposed to the elements. The ones I installed on my travel trailer are going on 5 years with no issues, so I’m hoping 5-10 is a reasonable expectation for the house.

I take them down - just to keep the wiring and bulb covers from getting too weathered.

Gives me a chance to inspect the wires as well, ensuring that the insulation isn't slipping, exposing bare wires etc.

Like you, I have a 2 story. Put up lights around the entire roof line. It was too cold to take them down after Christmas, and too busy in the spring and just plain forgotten after. The next Christmas I didn't have to do anything, they were still up! But the following summer, the plastic clips started to decay in the UV and the lights began to fall off. Every wind a few more dangled, and few more clips got chewed up in the lawnmower. Finally I just ripped them all off and have never put them back up. That was 4 years ago.

The Lights were up along the eaves when I bought the house 8 years ago.

Leaving christmas lights up on the house all year is pretty ghetto. If you don't want to take them down, don't put them up.

Unless of course you have them around the tiki bar or pool house, then its ghetto chic.

I put lights on the roofline once, took them down once, and will not be putting them back up. If lights are required, I'll put them around some windows or the garage door, not going up on the roof again though.

Bought this house with more peaks than the Sierra Nevadas. Definitely not going up there. Its a suicide mission

I threw a 50’ string of lights in a tree, did another one, and bought a laser light beam thing

We put lights on what can be reached without a ladder, that way it is easy to take them down. We have enough banisters, posts, trees and bushes that we can hang a pile of lights if we want to.

If your leaving your lights up year after year I would be checking the insulation on the wires, it gets brittle in the UV and can crack and chip. I take mine down and put up every year.

I don't hang Xmas lights any more.

It's a PITA and it confuses other drivers.

I don't take them down, I don't put them up, I don't have any Christmas lights. I believe in Christmas but don't believe in the nonsense that goes with it.

Buddy bought leds, permanently installed. Said he spent 1300 bucks, I though holy &$#&. Barely tell their there in daylight.

My father purchased the Holiday metal light hooks four years ago. He wanted to take them out every year after Christmas but I told him that he can left them there because it is designed for it. And he did and they hang there for four years now.
