I have been making enough jerky and such that I need foodsaver type unit so I can freeze it and not worry so much about freezer burn. I would also use it for other foods.

I have heard story's of certain models over heating.

I would like to hear firsthand from the members here which models work best for you?

Thank you!

I've had my FoodSaver, Vacuum Sealer, Model V4825 that I picked up at Canadian Tire 3 years ago. By no means is it a commercial unit but it does a great job for my freezer needs (steaks, pork chops, chicken, pepperoni etc.) and it's never given me issues.

Cabelas 12” Commercial Grade Vac-Sealer regular $349 on sale right now for $299. I have had mine for about 4 years and use it lots and have had no issues what so ever. Has single or double seal option has a marinate option. Comes with some bags and spare seal strips as well. I am still on the original seals on mine though.

I've put abut 350 cycles through this one, no problems so far.

I've been using my Foodsaver for a little under 3 years now. It just started doing a poor job of sucking the air out - does not leave the jerky rock hard in the bag. The company has a 5 year guarantee. I got it at Costco so brought it back there and they did a no questions asked return so I bought another one. Original price just under $190. Price for the new one $130. Down time in 3 years ~2 hours. I am happy with it and recommend it to everyone.

If you want to do liquids then a chamber vac is the unit. We bought this one thinking it would be dragging it out a couple of times a year when we did meat and sausage - it is now one of the most used appliances we have and doesn't move from it's convenient location. Probably sealed 3000+ bags with it. Still going. (Who would have thought Staples would be selling chamber vacs?)

Looks like a nice unit but we will not be doing much at all for liquids

Same thing with mine. Took it apart per the directions and cleaned it. Works like new again. If anything else does happen, Costco!

I use this unit, its awesome on how well it packages. Its not fast but the quality of the seal it awesome. Its not to expensive if you are close to the border. I had mine shipped from https://www.webstaurantstore.com/search/vp-112s.html when it was on sale. Ended up costing me about $550 all in with 1000 qt size bags. Probably have 500 cycles this year and still sounds and works like new. The thing I like is the bags are only 5c each.

Yup. Cheaper than zip locs. Great to seal up leftovers etc.

If a fellow is a young man, then a chamber unit is the way to go if you can afford it. Amazed at how often I use mine (not a chamber unit). We are two and most recipes are for four. We seal and freeze leftovers. Food makes a great gift for young families on the go. My oldest and his wife are wedding photog's and they don't leave our house without a meal the weekends they are working and we have the Grandson, that alone makes it worthwhile for us.
