Go to ice fishing rod

I am in the market for a new ice fishing rod and am wondering what your go to rod is in the medium to medium heavy range? I would like something in the 36" range.
Uncut Angling and the fishing geeks both use or mention Haat rods.

12” piece of surveyor lath notched at both ends with 20 yards of 8lb mono wrapped around it. That way you can have a 5 gallon pail full of them.

St.Croix makes some excellent med/heavy ice rods in 36" length. High quality guides, solid reel seats and outstanding feel for a stiff rod. I use mine for pike and lake trout and she hasn't let me down.

I'd LOVE a Haat rod, but they're insanely expensive. Get a Fenwick HMG....not gonna break the bank, and it's a quality product. AFAIC, the reel is more important than a rod, anyhow...

A friend has HAAT rods, they r great but like Poppa said they r expensive.

I would love a Haat rod but being located in SE Alberta, there isn't much need for one. Maybe if I lived in Saskatchewan or Manitoba....

I had a pike at Winefred break mine off right at the handle. Sent a picture to st. Croix and they mailed me a new one so I can’t complain about that.

What would you guys prefer for fishing outside for lake trout and pike?

Medium heavy 40 inch or 45" heavy?

I cant decide! i want the 45" heavy but i've afraid of it being overkill. Been searching old threads for opinions.

I got a 45” haat MH. But would probably go with a tuned up custom 38-42” if your staying in AB.

The 40” MH would keep those smaller trout entertaining.

Caeblas Eagle 50 UL 26". Ive caught 5# Walleye on that rod, and it works all the way down to 4" perch.

36" MH Ugly Stick. This is a good rod with a terrible handle. Its so consistent and fun though! Duct tape fixed it.
