Do you guys sharpen your blades or just buy replacements?

Sharpen them. I've rotated 2 sets of blades for over 10 years with no issues. R and R Sharpening in Edmonton does a great job.

Foothills sharpening. The guys always do a top-shelf job and the price is right. I love how they wax them for protection.

I get mine sharpened. Tried it once myself and it ruined an outing, lol.

Sharpen. The river I fish is full of silt and will dull a blade quickly. For a touch up I use a file or sandpaper, if I hit a rock I use a grinder. As long as you sharpen each blade equally and don't mess up the angle too much you are good to go. YMMV.

8" hand powered guy, I sharpened them with grinder wheel, kept original angle as best I could and finished with file. So sharp you could shave with them.
Went down with anticipation to little pike lake at end of my road.
Walked off dock and started drilling to see how it would cut.
Well the darn thing wouldn't centre up and approx 1 hour later I had a 1' hole and I felt like I would pass out.
I've looked online and determined i assembled blades on correct way, same as picture above in this post.
There is a small shim with blade.
Did I screw angle up perhaps.
I did get some pike so that was good but couldn't drill another hole.

Carbide Saw Service in Bowness sharpens my 10" NORMARK curved blades for $25 per pair. Compared to $60 for a new set. I use 3 sets in rotation so always have a sharp set. Service is fast too.

Something to consider. Any sharpened tool if used respectfully will last a hell of a lot longer than one not. Treat the edges like a good knife, keep them covered, don’t bang them on the ice and for sure don’t “hammer” through that last bit of ice.

I have not tried it but I bet the Lanskey knife sharpening system would work great to sharpen the blades.

Straight beveled blades can be sharpened quite effectively but there are some precautions to take. The original angle should be maintained and the back (flat) side shouldn't be messed with. A lansky sharpener is what I've used with success, but a seemingly razor sharp edge won't cut. A micro bevel has to be put on as well , it's a slightly different angel to the original bevel.

I've always sharpened them myself, but you have to be careful to follow the original bevel angle. I've spent years doing knives, fish hooks, broad heads and drill bits at work. These were pretty easy for me. Take your time, and don't get it hot. A very fine file and emery cloth is best if you aren't very comfortable with an angle grinder and fine flapper wheel, but small bursts to avoid heat. That's if you have nicks. If not, I find a block with a fine sand paper works well. A decent fixed vice is a must too. You can even strop it with leather after for a fine finish. Let your blades dry after use too, saves you a lot of time next time you sharpen if they aren't rusty.

I second them. I have 3 sets I rotate and they have been doing mine for many years. Quick reasonable and most times while I wait. Worth my small drive to get them done right.

Absolutely sharpen them vs buying a new set. They are not that hard to do yourself really.

I can confirm that. I have been sharpening my Ion blades for the last 4 years with no issues
