Been starting to look around for a Thiokol Imp 1404 or perhaps something similar. It would mostly be just for pleasure, roaming around out in the snow with some firewood hauling duties tossed in there as well. They seem like an interesting machine, and capable.

Does anyone here have experience with these units, or something similar? They don't seem easy to come by, or I'm not looking in the right places. I'd be willing to put some work into one.

Give the guys at Rocky Mountain Snowcats a call. They may know where there are some.

A few years ago i bought a Foremost Spyder which is similar in style to what you posted.
The motor, a V6 was between the seats and very noisy. The grease and dirt which had accumulated in the tunnel where the motor sat caught on fire from the hot exhaust pipe. Fortunately it was in winter and we were able to throw enough snow on it to quench the fire. The heat though must have distorted an O ring in the hydrostatic transmission. Moral of the story get one with the motor behind the cab, such as a Bombi.
I still want something like this to cruise in heavy snow when it's too cold for a snowmobile. The Bombi's do show up on Kijiji but many times are in bad shape. unless you are willing to pay 12 to 20K.,
