Pike leader knot help!! 60lb Seagaur

Evening gents, sitting here watching the Oilers and wings and trying to tie up some fluorocarbon leaders for our June trip to Winefred. I’m using 60lb Seaguar and it’s too big to accommodate a Palomar, Cinch, or Trilene knot. Simply trying to tie to barrel swivels and snap swivels. How do you boys make em?? Thanks Piker, where would a guy get those wire sleeves? Are they compatible with flouro? I thought I had the recipe with the Seaguar and swivels but may be not, I’m hoping I can make this work with what I have because i specifically bought this for our trip

Sleeves and crimping tools are available on Amazon. Cannot see why this would not work with fluorocarbon leaders. Not sure what size you would need.

Improved clinch knot works. Key with thicker line is to not wrap it as many times. For 60 lb you can probably get 4 wraps, if you can only get 3 that will work too. Use pliers to help tighten if needed.

Indeed, they take a bit of work to cinch them, but they will work. I’ve done it with 80lbs. I have used crimpers, but for some reason I don’t trust them as well as a knot.

If you (op) search back a year or 2 you’ll find a good post about big pike rigs.

I’ve also used a figure-8 follow through (used for climbing) and put a dab of superglue. Then I burn the tag end so it “mushrooms” up against the knot. It’s a wee bit of a larger knot, but it’s smaller than a sleeve.

Does that heavy line stay relatively straight or does it kink? I've always used wire which can kink.

i find it always has a curl from the spool. is there a way to fix that?

If you put on a pair of leather gloves or mitts and run/stretch it out with those on a few times it straightens it out fairly well.

Stretching it will straighten it but you need to pull hard on 60+ lb line.

I kind of like titanium wire that doesn’t kink. Regular steel wire is useless.

i love the titanium leaders but they cost more then my lures hahaha

It will last a long time(years), if you store it out of the sun and heat. I have some that is over 8 years old. Probably some even older than that. It shows no signs of breaking down.

I use improved clinch and throw the tag end in a vice to cinch the knot. Then a little dab of superglue and it’s all good.

I’ve tried 40,60,&80 lb leader material, 80 is just too thick. I use 40 for walleye and 60 for pike.
