Sask. and BC Licenses but Not Alberta

Last year I never even bought a Alberta Fishing License. Only bought BC and Saskatchewan. Anyone else do the same?

Almost. I had BC and sask for the summer. Cabin fever got the best of me and I bought an AB one two weeks into March....and managed to catch one perch :sign0161:

Fish a bit here but found a good lake in Sask and have been going to BC since early 90's. Fishing in the southern irrigation reservoirs was better in the 80's

Guys, take a pill. There is a real good reason 30,000 less fishing licenses were sold in Alberta last year than the year before, and they have been dropping for a while. If you don't recognize that Alberta Resources and the NDP are screwing up Alberta fishing then you are living with your head in the sand. Sask has thousands of lakes, and no people, B.C. has thousands of lakes and the ocean. Not real surprising even died in the wool Alberta boosters would choose to do their fishing elsewhere if they can.

All the talking in the world has not convinced the NDP to take the issues seriously. I also don't hold a lt of hope that the UCP will have this anywhere near the top of their issues list given the major problems Alberta is currently facing.

The one thing that gives me hope is watching people catching huge fish in the UK. I'm not a fan of the current trend, as I feel it has more to do with catering to the card holders than any real concern for conservation. The one ray of hope however, is that if C&R regs can create trophy fisheries within the London city limits, then one would assume that Alberta can once again start producing some amazing catches eventually... of course, the UK doesn't have the card holders and their nets, so maby not.

Just wondering where the -30,000 licences info came from? Esp given they only stopped being sold 2 weeks ago.
I have not seen any Gov'ts that efficient getting the info out. Especially during a publication ban.

Comes from ACA reporting of what has caused the substantial drop, over $800,000, in their funding they receive from Wildlife Bucks.

I picked up my 2019 Alberta License on Friday. I plan to fish Alberta from the Bow River to the Athabasca this year, and as many waters in between as I can. I don't keep many fish, as I'm a catch and release guy for the most part. The only thing I really worry about is to make sure the waters I plan on fishing are open for fishing.

I also plan to buy a JNP license this year as well.

That's because during the Conservative years everyone was WORKING!

When people aren't working they drink, smoke pot, procreate and fish.

Extolling the virtues of the NDP here doesn't have much sway with working Albertan's.

Interesting, that info came from an article in Alberta Outdoorsman, owned by the same guy the owns this forum. It was an article about ACA and the recent drop in funding they have experienced. The article was in the Feb 2019 magazine, in an article titled "From around the outdoor world" by Brad Fenson. (To be fair, on re-reading it say funding dropped $850,000 to Dec 31, 2018, of which $400,000 was the result of 20,000 fewer fishing license sales (not the 30,000 I remembered.)

According to what you got, sales are only down 5.2 thousand licenses year over year.If that is wrong, wonder what else isn't fact checked.

To be fair however, even by your own numbers license sales dropped from 303, 212, first year the NDP got in, to 289,794 last year so a drop of 13,400 under their watch, not an increase.

I can't believe some of you squabble over thousands of licenses...really?
Normal variation is how I view it.

Overall it has been trending up for a while. The slight and recent drop could be reduced limits. I would not be surprised if we see numbers drop for the next year, year after and for a few. Reduced limits would make more sense on the likely cause not not a specific political party. But if you want to believe otherwise, that is your prerogative.
