Broadheads for Recurve - Deer and Elk

Greetings folks,

Will be getting out with my bow in the fall before rifle season and as my Birthday is coming up and people want to know what to get me, I thought some broadheads might be in order. I know nothing about them and want to ask if anyone could share some recommendations and things to consider.

I have a 40 pound recurve bow and would like to be hunting Deer/Elk with it. I could get some higher poundage limbs as well if that would be recommended.

I have tried and tested dozens of cut on contact heads over the years ,
I keep going back to Zwickey Eskimos and Deltas, they do everything I want them to in my stick bows - accurate, easy to sharpen and cut well.

There’s lots of good ones, for 3 blade I like weasel woodsmans ..they fly great for me. Ted Nugent had some out a few years ago, they were really inexpensive and I know they kill deer well ;)

Probably Calgary archery center has them. Otherwise it’s three rivers in the states.

Has a few styles of broadhead to suit your needs. Make sure you are getting good flight with your field points of the same weight and work on getting them sharp.

OK well I draw it out so maybe 48#, at the hunt. Zawicky broad heads but I use wood shafts as well and make and tune my own arrows. I started this year on the alum shafts as I can swap out field tips to judo and then broad heads without carrying a lot of arrows. Just make sure they are sharp what ever you are going to use and if you have a butcher friend go the the meat locker and see results before you head out hunting.

I order my trad equipment from Kustom king archery in the state, fast shipping and good price. First figure out how much weight will tune well for your bow as far as tip goes and match the appopriate weight head. I ended up with 225gr single bevel steel force. they have worked well for me.

I pull a lightweight bow as well , and the Zwickeys work well for flight and penetration for me .
I have also used Eldburg Grizzlies in the past and they are still available .
Jack Kempf also likes them .

That’s less then almost any good quality modern fixed blade or mechanical on the market(G5,Slick Tricks,Rage,Grim Reaper,etc)
Maybe you can knap some rocks and lash them on with sinew save a couple bucks,lol 😝

+1 for the Zwickey Eskimos. I’d feel a little more comfortable hunting elk with a heavier bow.
