May 26th …. went out to Sunbreaker with Scott, what a Bty day little to no wind & it was as hot as the bite, we did extremely well & lost as many as we landed which was in the order of 18 Whites & 20 or more Walleye & had some fun with a couple of Pike, no Perch today.

Scott caught the majority of the Walleye, he has a few pics to add.

Cheers

David

Nice report, thanks guys. Next week I'm heading up there for the first time and this will be helpful. I'm bringing my fly rod and some caddis patterns :)

Nice haul.
A little early to be talking about spawning as they don't spawn for another 6 months or so.

Whites spawn in the fall. Those are this years eggs starting to develope.

I've seen various fish (Walleye, Pike & Lakers) not totally spawn out, so I don't believe these Whites are developing eggs in April/May for spawning in late October or November. One of the female's had over 50% of her eggs still in her sack. It would be interesting to hear what a fisheries biologist had to say on the topic.

David

For those wondering what contributed to our success of catching 25 Whitefish and 20 plus Walleye on open water, it was location-location-location ?

We found a couple of spots that had a significant drop-off with lots of sand/weed mix and a bonus one spot had an inside bend, it was a spot-on-spot. The top of the structure was approx 4 fow and it dropped down to 15 fow over a distance of perhaps 30-35 feet. We were able to work both the shallow portion and vertical jig on the deep side of the drop. The active fish were a bonus, I've never caught this many Whites before they were inhaling my Mini Mr. Twister 1/32 oz jig and were scrappy little fighters. The walleyes were in the deeper side of the drop and just crunch down on your presentation. It was a lot of fun with great company to start the 2019 season.

Edit - This is one spot that Scott & I most likely will not be sharing with our A/O friends.

Cheers

David

We were also out, spent the day off half moon on the drop off. Caught about 15 walleye, no whites even though we were trying in shallow and floats with fly’s and shrimp imitations. Oh well, great day out, kid caught some fish, I caught some fish, both got a tan. Nothing wrong with that
