Fish finder question

This, I'm sure, will sound like a dumb question to some of you but I have to ask. I have a Hummingbird Helix 5 fish finder. My question is this...when a fish symbol comes up on the screen is that really a fish? The reason I ask is that when I'm watching videos or reading fishing articles about fish finders it appears that fish detected on a finder screen is just a solid color, not the little fish symbol. Why is that?

go into your settings and take the fish id off. When fish show up on the finder they are usually a banana shaped object on the sonar.

If you go into your settings there’s an option to display marked fish as a fish symbol or an arch.

The fish symbol thing is a little dicey because it really could be anything and you are letting the fish finder decide what to call a fish. Its the dumbed down version to keep it simple. Would be interesting to test out.

Like the guys are saying take that mode off and watch some youtube videos that will help you understand your fish finder sonar readings better. Pretty interesting stuff.
