Has the algae bloom started on Pigeon Lake? If so, how bad is it now?

Thanks.

No idea on the algae state at Pigeon right now, but lets face it, there is a lot of Phosphates in the water there which are never consumed and until encased in sediment on the bottom, are a plague on the lake.

Biggest problem for a lot of the prairie / parkland lakes is that they are "bowls" where water runs to and evaporates, leaving the suspended chemicals to build to higher and higher levels.

If there is an outflow stream that is unobstructed, the water can purge the lake.

Wouldn't it be a neat DU project to guy up a bunch of the low land on the southeast corner of Pigeon where there is a seasonal drainage, or once was, and create a canal from Pigeon to this low land to purge the lake? Perhaps the water quality would improve. Given that there are about 5000 permanent residents around the lake, there should be support at the County - Province level for water quality improvement.

I fished Pigeon on july 6 and the water was fine at the PP. U could see the tiny spots just beginning. These cooler temps should delay the growth. BEL

I fished Pigeon July 9, 10 and 11. Walleye were committing suicide and I didn't notice any appreciable amount of algae build up yet. But it's still early...

Last year pigeon stayed pretty clear. Buck lake on the other hand was a sludge pit. Fishing was still good but the water was ugly.

We fished Mulhurst/Silver Beach this past Saturday. Some specks were in the water but you could still see your jig on the bottom in 12-14' of water. Lots of people tubing/swimming etc....

It's pretty clear right now - not getting green just yet.
