Hello, I will be traveling up to Banff and will be staying in the Canmore area. I am looking to do some fly fishing one day while I am there. The problem is I will not have access to a rental car so it is difficult and expensive to make the trip over to calgary to fish the lower bow and the options seem limited and less ideal fishing the northern bow. Any other ideas or recommendations for me? Thanks

If you are in Canmore, your first point of contact should probably be Wapiti Sports on Railway ave. They will be able to point you in the right direction.

I have had good success along the Bow right in town. A decent spot is just upstream of where the bridge crosses the Bow, near downtown. Another is along the river just upstream of Three Sisters development.

I have never fished the lower Bow, and my experience is that the upper Bow is a completely different fishery in terms of quality.

If you want a great fly fishing adventure not far from Canmore, hike into Headwall Lakes. It is about a 1hr drive South of Canmore along the Spray Lakes road. Then hike in (a couple hours or so) and slay on 10-14” cutthroats. Beautiful setting and casting dries to rising fish is always fun.

Wapiti Sports in Canmore does most of the guided fishing in the Canmore area - and they are excellent. Book a trip early in your stay, and ask for tips on fishing within walking distance of town later during your stay, and they'll be happy to point you in the right direction.
