View Full Version : Row boats?

In the past my only experience with rowing involved john boats or tinners and was generally pretty slow and frustrating. This summer however I built a simple rowing setup to use with my freighter canoe and to my surprize I have been quite enjoying it, often opting to row rather than use the kicker. The freighter tracks nicely, the long hull moves along quickly and efficiently, and the whole experience is pleasant and relaxing. While I enjoy paddling along in a canoe or kayak as much as the next guy, I'm starting to think that its a bit of a shame that the masses have mostly forgotten about rowboats. Anyone else on here rockin' a rowboat?

Wow, those are a lot more elegant than my crude set up, would be cool to build something like that someday though.

I fished the Tyee pool in Campbell River for quite a few years out of a Tyee row boat. I absolutely loved it! They were only 14’ rowboats but were wide with tall gunnels as they were designed for ocean use.

I use a small 7.5 ft plastic " Backwater " rowboat sometimes. it weighs about 50 lbs
and I can still unload and load it without help . quite stable .
