Left or right hand Help pls

I’ve have come to realize my youngest son is left eye dominate but is right hand dominate,he looks through his left eye but draws right,,he does very well but would it be best to go with a left handed bow or try to train his right eye to shoot, I’m dumbfounded on this one,thank you all that reply :test:

My kids (7 and 6) are the same way. I made them shoot left handed. They fumbled around getting used to using the other hand for a week or two but have settled in nicely now and are shooting well.

Left eyed here too. Just learn to shoot left handed....all the same muscles...just need to train them

As a youngster I couldn't hit shift with my right eye ,and I was told I was left eye dominant been shooting Lefty for 40 years no problems.

Same here.. I'm right handed and real happy my Dad put me on the silly side 70 some yrs ago. Not many LH rifles in those days either.

I just want to thank everyone who left a reply on the left eye right hand issue,we spent some time at jimbows edm and my son is pumped,his new left handed bow comes in early next week and has lots of diff draw length settings and can be dialed down for the new left handed shooter.Thanks for the great advice everyone pumped to get out and watch him use it.good luck and be safe :sHa_shakeshout::sHa_shakeshout:

I just started Bow hunting last year and I’m also right handed and left eye dominant. After doing some research I decided to learn to shoot left and it feels so natural now. At first putting arrows in the rest and on the string felt weird but it didn’t take long to get use to. I’m thinking of trying to learn to shoot a rifle left hand as well. I’m not a good shot right handed anyways haha

I think you did the right thing for him in the long run. Like others have said, there is a bit of a transition and certainly some frustration (especially when you just bought a brand new bow!)...but worth it for sure. I shot RH for many years. Made the switch and an added benefit is I can now shoot from both sides :) but still prefer LH

Same dilemma for me 20 years ago ... wanted to buy a custom made recurve but wanted to know which way to go ... spoke with some of the greatest archers at the time when they came to Edmonton the year we hosted the Pope & Young Club awards ... they ALL said go with your dominant eye ... because when you're in a pressure shot ...your dominant eye will take over. I bought light weight target recurves ... one left and one right ... shot them for a year (very awkward at first on the left side) ... became convinced that going left (dominant eye) was the way to go. I've since taught myself to shoot shotgun left as well....though that was a bit tougher. I can now shoot left and right bow, shotgun, rifle ... has its advantages especially when you put a bet on the line at the target range ... first half of course left and second half right :) great fun with your friends.

Just wondering here..

I decided I was a right hand shooter long before I knew about
how to find the domenant eye, closing one eye and then then the
other while looking through.

Right sided strong arm, right handed writing on paper, right shoulder shotgun, simply became comfortable fast and easy to me, mostly natural.

Was 6 or 7 at the time.

Later I find I'm right eye dominante, no surprise.

Hasn't changed since.

On the other hand my wife is aby dexerix and can write with the
left hand just as well as the right. I cannot do that.

My best guess is .. her domiant eye is center of both left and right.

Seriously, I think if you let him find his own way with what's comfortable
and what works in next few years, he'll be fine. He just needs some time.

Weather it's left or right, he will know what's best for him.

What works, what fits.
