Hiked up into the back country for the weekend with a new friend to try out my new badlands pack. First on this list of things to get is a 4 piece 5wt fly rod.

Packed too much food as I never tire of eating these.

Still can't decide on a tent or a bivy sack ... but life is good in the hammock!

Found these small balls around the shore .. tons of them, blue & green ones. No holes through them. Any ideas what the are?

Are they the balls the air or spring guns shoot? The hard plastic BB style?

Probably hard plastic pellets from an airsoft gun.

I've got a badlands pack too, but mines the day pack. Hoping to try it out in Banff next week and bug all the granola's with the camo!

You gotta try a Hennesey Hammock. I've got two and swear by them.

Those Hammocks are pretty sweet, I almost bought one, but decided to go with a Kifaru tipi insted. I felt it would be a little more versatile for my needs, plus the stoves that you can get for them make a HUGE difference in your level of comfort. Still, I almost feel that I need to have both, too bad the wife doesn't share that same feeling...:D

Yeah, they're only so-so in very cold weather. But the sleep is what makes the difference for me. I sleep better than at home. Been through some wild hailstorms and stayed nice and dry. I usually pack another sil tarp to sit and cook under when the weather is bad and you can hang out with whoever you're with.

nice fish but if you are not fishing in a lake that is stocked maybe consider catch and release? (very nice fish)

Huh? Do you think he keeps more than he releases? or he is keeping more than his limit alows?
Sorry your comment just seemed to come out of no where.

I was down at the confluence of the Highwood and the Sheep rivers last week and I found this!!

Upon my first inspection I thought it was a downrigger ball...
But finding no wire hook for the down rigger cable, or any place that the hanger could've been, I thought it was a cannonball.
But cannonballs are traditionally made of iron or steel, and this is lead.
A good source told me it is a weight from a fishing net, similar to one used for commercial fishing, to hold the net on bottom.

SO WHO'S NETTING OUR RIVERS!!?????

Looks tasty to me, nothing wrong with keeping the odd one for supper when your'e in the back country. Kinda weird, that weight out of the Sheep. Makes you wonder?
