What does everyone do with their mangy coyotes?

Toss em in a bush I’m not trapping in, Or throw em in a pit that eventually gets burnt.

Friend of mine got a bait site checked by Fish and Wildlife. He had a mangy coyote tossed off to the side. They are trying to charge him with wasting a fur bearing animal.

How bad was the mange? Shoulder mite damage or full blown mange?

I think shoulder mites.

The mange mite dies quickly in cold weather.
No need to burn it, just toss it.

Is he trapping on public land or private property? You can shoot coyotes on private property at all times of year with no requirement to salvage the pelt. I don’t see why it’d be different for trapping them on private property. Pelts of beaver, squirrel, badgers and skunk don’t have to be salvaged if trapped on private property so I don’t know why it’d be different for coyotes. If someone wants me to trap furbearers in the summer for damage control the pelts don’t get salvaged because there’s no commercial value in them.

Anyway, I burn the coyotes not worth skinning......mites and mange.

If trapped under a damage control permit hides don’t need to be salvaged. On the other hand if beavers are trapped under a damage control permit they have to be skinned if you are going to sell the carcass. 🤷*♂️
