It would be very interesting to hear a rough number on how many coyotes they've bought so far. Marty?

I hope that the fur that private buyers are buying, not just GFW, don't make it to the FHA auction.

Why ?

Why, if GFW just dumps our fur back on FHA to make a cool extra $20 on each pelt then they will depress the overall FHA market with extra high volume offerings. We are just better off taking them directly to ATA and get full retail price less drumming fees. Either GFW is a "fur buyer" or a "Middleman".

My understanding of GFW is they sell direct to manufacturers but who knows they might throw some in the auction.

From what they say on their website they hold fur all year and complete orders upon demand. Anyone need a couple hundred coon on short notice they are the place to go.

What BGW said and if those pelts don't make it to the auction there are fewer pelts available for buyers. With the strong demand for western heavies that could result in higher prices for Trappers. It's the old supply and demand thing.

From what I gather is that GFW has their own tannery and processes the fur they buy and has their own market to sell finished goods too.

I agree if they don’t send fur to the auction then there is less fur to pick from for buyers, but also GFW has been a buyer at the auction in the past so now with them buying private sale western heavy then they won’t be at the auction so now there’s one less buyer driving prices up.

The other thing I’ve thought about is that with GFW buying in Canada now their supply of furs will be larger so will it draw fur buyers that would normally go to the auction house to buy their fur will they now just go to GFW to buy a finished product? For possibly cheaper than what it cost them before with going to auction, then auction fees then the tanning and processing costs would be?

GFW isnt just your average PT buying company, they are the largest and most connected wild fur buyer in the world. They have been buying our coyotes for quite some time... and all kinds of other stuff. They are the largest buyer of beaver, probly coon too?

Point of interest, beaver, been seeing 15–16 averages on large collections, as in big skins. Personally Id rather just buy coyotes and anything fur out.
