just wondering how the season has gone for most. If your finished for the season how was it? or if your still going how is it?

My season was great. Record number for me! good furs all in all only thrown away 15% which is a very tiny number when I’m used to 40-50% in the past.

Didn’t have many refusals it seemed like the dogs came into bait better this year than last year, maybe it had to do with the amount of snow we got at all the right times for me.

My biggest change this year was abandoning baits more when they dried up and moving on to another than maybe going back. Seemed to help with dogs not becoming smart to what’s going on.

Season for me was October 15th to February 1st.

Sounds like we had a similar season. I still have a few snares out and most likely pull this weekend. I didn’t have as many baits going that I had planned just due time and some crops still in the field. Can’t complain all in all. Just hope the prices on coyotes hold for a few more years.

Only hunted this year, no trapping.

Purdy dismally numbers wise. Deep, early snow really has hampered things.
But..., seems quality is getting better. Not much mange but weak neck/ shoulders is still prevalent.

I pulled the last of my snares today and managed to catch my last coyote of the season. It was time to pull the plug and catch up in the skinning shed. I caught more than my minimum goal and a little less than the maximum that I wanted to catch.

The Good.......Lots of Coyotes and really high quality. Except for a litter of pups in one area early in the season, no mange. Very low number of shoulder mites and red bellies. Beauty nice fur and white bellies on almost all until recently. Until the end of January I could get to most of my bait sites in my F150 and only had to use my sled mainly in February.

The Bad.......My new fancy assed Snowbear 10’ trailer with the small trailer tires for my skidoo didn’t hold up. Last week I took a turn and noticed a tire wobbling. I stopped to check and the bearings had blown out both sides. I limped it back to a shop about 30 Kms and of course it scored the axle. A new axle will cost me a few coyotes......lol. I have to manufacture a ramp this summer for the old drill rod tank of a trailer with the truck axle/tires on it. It’s bulletproof.

We had a week of -40 weather and I figured that I’d catch up in the shed. The one electric heater that I had wasn’t enough to thaw coyotes so I went out and bought another. I got my electricity bill for January and it was $300 and change......lol.

The Ugly.......I lost a week of trapping due to a loss in the family. :(

All in all it was a great season and I have no complaints........although it may sound like it. :)

Dave sorry to read about your "loss in the family". On spinning your wheels off your trailer, you may need to slow down and leave a few coyotes for the other guys.

Scotty, excellent trapping season, you must have jumped lots of snow drifts to trap such a nice large mix of fur. Just curious do you not have any fisher on your line?

Man I wish I had marten and Wolverines.

I had a poor season this year compared to last but hides were still good quality ...needed more winter in my area ,no snow and only a week of cold temps that really put coyotes into the baits . I had a problem with eagle damage and hope I have a solution for.next year ,time will tell.

Not that many, I catch one or two every few years.
