Hello all

If somebody could give us some advice.

Were going houseboating at Koocanusa. We are taking a fishing boat.

What do we need to catch some fish. Being flatlanders we have no idea.

There are alot of different species in there.

1. Do we need downrigers?
2. Do we troll or still fish?
3. How deep to we troll or still fish?
4. What kind of bait?
5. How heavy of line?
6. What kind of lures for which species?
7. What's the best biting species around Aug. 23?
8. Possible locations???

Thank's for the replys if any. :)

We were ther in early July, and all the locals said we would catch would be Kokannee slamon, the Rainbow were still biting but very hard to find. We were at the Koocanusa resort and marina in Montana.

We just trolled these big spinner setups, probably 6 silver spinning blades, hooked up kind of like a walleye rig with a small coloured (pink) spinner and 1 hook at the end. I believe they were called kokanee killers. We also had a 1 oz weight and this elastic type piece 4" long. They said the kokanee have very soft mouths, and they keep from over setting the hook.

Just threw it in, and trolled at appx. 2 km/h.

We didn't try that hard it was just a little bit of fishing from the father in laws wakeboard boat. More of a playing trip. We caught 4 in a few hours. We talked to one boat and they caught 50 in a full day of fishing.

Good luck and have fun.
