Wonder if those are red squirrels or a different type from the states, and also the ermine.:

Coyotes are looking REAL good! :sHa_shakeshout:

Like the other state auctions this was a mixed bag of Eastern, Semi and Heavy Western fur. Unlike the NAFA auction, fur isn’t sorted by grade. Trappers put their own fur in specific lots. That means that one Trapper’s lot of fur averaged US$146.22 ($194.29 CD). :sign0068: There’s no doubt in my mind that they were Western Heavies. There was a seller from Lethbridge and one from Pincher Creek. I wonder if it was one of them.

Without knowing the size/quality of the beaver pelts, the average looks pretty darned good. Red Fox had a good average too imo. Both sold at 100% so here’s hoping that there’s interest in them again. Muskrat......Meh.

For you Marten Trappers.......those prices are for semi heavy and not the heavies that you’re trapping. You should get much more at the FHA auction if you sent them there.

The FHA auction should be interesting. :)

Naw... heard funny stories that it wasn’t them!

If anyone gets ideas about going south, do beware the law! Lotsa little hoops to jump thru. It’s doable, but do beware USFW. I’m sure the guys that went down did their research cuz I’m sure they didn’t want a free bonus plane ride to CO. if you try it, you need a USFW import licence, inspection(s) and fees, and technically a commercial import.

Check this out, Marty. From someone that attended the auction. Posted on a US trapping site:

“Most of the coyotes I saw at the sale were eastern coyotes with a bunch from Alberta.”

I’ll bet that it was a lucky Lethbridge or Pincher Creek Trapper that had all that fur in the high lot. Probably not their first rodeo. :)

Personally, I wouldn’t send my fur to such a small auction but you can put a minimum bid on your fur.

Little information on the Montana sale

I know three guys that help set it up. Also one of the buyers.
One guy from “Canada” with over 300 coyotes. I know his name but won’t say it
Average for coyotes was $81.66 high was $146.22 it could of been 1 coyote in the top lot or more. I’m waiting for a response from the guys that set it up

For another example bobcats averaged $240.03 top lot $1111.19 that was one cat only.

Coyotes at the sale 1433 they sold 1309. The biggest percentage of coyotes was from Montana. I’ll try get some numbers from guys that were at the sale.

Top lot coyote for $146.22 was one coyote. Just heard from the fur buyer.

I asked about the person with 300 coyotes from "Canada"and how he did. This was his response

"Took most of them home, was offered a fair price for them of 70.00 some up to 80.00 ish had them in different lots. I looked at some of them and could of been put up better."

I wasn't there and didn't see these coyotes. This was a response from a fur buyer that was there.

I will say that 4 guys I know very well sold coyotes to Colt fur who I think buys for or are at part of GWF. Three averaged between $90-$100 on nice sized lots. One guy said he was at $75. He himself said he had poor looking coyotes this year and knew he wasn't going to get better anywhere else.

food for thought, in the 70's was getting $5.00 for muskrats in the US . that $33.00 us dollars today.
