Last fall I put my tubers in a dark cool spot. Today I opened the box this is what I have. Is this normal? Do I just plant in some moist soil?

Well alright then, time to rig up the grow room.I guess it wasnt cool enough where i stored them.
I think right about now is a correct time to start them in some soil anyway. They are slow to grow. If you want flowers in June then get them started. Last year I started some Begonias from seed - nothing is more challenging than Begonias from seed. Heat they need in abundance ( constant 24-26 degrees) and seeds have to start in about January for May flowers.

I'd say light - it gets them bushier and faster to flower. They might get a bit lanky without it. The main reason for lights and heat for Begonias, though is for tuber development, but since you already have those you're halfway there.

Cobea. Cobea from seed is more challenging. Actually I lie, I have never done begonia from seed but damn. Cobea we can only get l Ike 20% germination and take 30 days to sprout. Cuttings is much easier. We kept a small one from last spring in a pot through the winter so I can clone.

Bromeliads or tillandsias. Hard to fertilize, tiny seeds. Grow them in a Tupperware tub for 6 months or more until they are big enough to seperate - about 2 leaves normally. Then anywhere from 2 to 10 years for plant maturity.
