You didn't miss anything. Many lakes in southern AB are closed for fishing after March 15th.

I almost made a similar mistake.

In my haste to get out of the house where I could still feel isolated, I was going to hit up a southern lake.

Was ready to go then thought let’s see what the regs are for keeping burbot. Oh crap! That’s right they close Mar 15. Didn’t go.

So maybe it was an honest mistake? No excuse, I know.

Maybe you could “inform” them from the shore? They might be in the same boat, of just wanting to get out, and had blunders on.

Or they’re poachers. Just being the devils advocate.
