How's it going, everybody?

Hope Y'all safe!

Sitting home could be boring, but there's always something interesting you can do. I recently learned how to Electroplate at home for the very low coast. Been experimenting a bit and here is my freshly coated Fishing Spoon! Looks better than the new!

Cool video. That was lots of work for the one lure. It got me thinking about all my dads old lures that are in bad shape. Maybe it will be a project for this summer.

Thanks, guys!

I'm glad you dig it!

You should try it one day, it's fun! Just have your PPE and ventilation.

Cheers!

Nice work!! That is quite the procedure and looks like very time consuming. No better time then now to mess around restoring some old lures.

Thank you!
Yes, prepping could be very time consuming, but once you "brewed" your electrolytes it's getting done quickly. It also depends on how severely damaged the surface. But electroplating itself takes only a few minutes.

Angler - where did you get the nickel for plating ?

Was going to do a bunch of bolts & was not sure if I could use a jar of old nickels I have....

I bought it on eBay https://ebay.to/3afClnp
I've got 2 of them, and I brewed electrolyte myself, using vinegar and salt.

For what exactly?

From start to finish with no mistakes

Well again, if we talking from the very start, where you need to brew your electrolytes, that's 3hrs for each, nickel and copper. But once you brewed them they are good for a very long time and could be used a number of times. Then it all depends on how much prepping work your piece requires, for best results, it needs to be completely rust and grease free and sanded to 400 grit preferably. In my case, it took around an hour to file and sand my spoon. Once our part is ready for plating, you need to degrease it and etch it in acid, another 2 minutes and then plate it, first in copper(if made from brass, or bronze) for 5 minutes, then degrease and etch again and plate in Nickel, another 5 min.
Do the math yourself.
Hope I was useful.
