Regs for a storm pond?

I recently discovered a storm/drainage pond that has pike in it from the big flood. There is a major river close by. I think general ES1 still water regs would apply. Bait allowed, no bait fish and normal limits on keeping.

The only thing that concerns me is that these ponds are used to clear sediment and eventually water is released into the river. I don't fish with my older father because he can't handle the cast retrieve cycle of fishing in the river with lures but would enjoy using bait in the pond and just sitting back enjoying the company.

Storm water basins as far as I'm concerned are unregulated. Call F&W and they will tell you if you can be charged.

I'm not certain, but I'm guessing that you are correct that general ES1 lake regs would apply.

What mechanisms are in place to trap then release the water?

I'd suggest that telling a F&W officer "I heard on the forum" isn't going to excuse you from getting a ticket if you are fishing according to "general province wide regulations" when, in fact, that storm/drainage pond, by definition, is part of the watershed of which it originated from.

If it originated from the river - from a natural over land flood or spill - the regulations of the river would apply.

If it originates from a different source, you may be in luck.

If in doubt, call fish and wildlife - of they tell you something different take the name of the person you spoke to, dat and time.

I called and es1 lake rules would apply. As the it is a city of calgary pond they might have an issue with fishing it. There is a sign saying "no wading, swimming, walking on ice, or CONTACT WITH WATER" I will take my chances with bylaw but don't want to break the regs.

Question is what is a storm pond versus just a landscaping, environmental, beautification project.

Ponds in Fish Creek park by Sikome have fish in them. Guessing pike, trout, perch and carp.

My understand is that Fishcreek Park is under the province's jurisdiction, no the City.

These ponds would be perfect for kids to fish in. Most contain Prussian Carp,kids would have a blast with them. The pond in McKenzie Town would be ideal for a startup/trial of this.

I really don't see what the issue is with fishing,swimming,skating,boating perhaps but fishing is minimal contact.

These storm ponds are interconnected and need to dump somewhere, don't get fooled with invasive species they'll make there way to the river that these ponds connect to.

The storm ponds off 22X at Fishcreek Park always has someone fishing. Even ice fishing in a tent
