What caliber do most trapper uses to shoot beavers. I was debating between 22 magnum or 17 HMR. Is there a caliber that is better ?

.22 hornet!-deadly and plus if you were walking down the creek in the middle of no where and came across a bear-lookout bear!

A simple .22 is all I’ve ever used. It’s not the caliber that does it, it’s all up to shot placement.

I mostly use 22mag, but been using 17hmr this year love it. Both are good but like said before all about shot placement.

Typical,

Hope you didn't opt for a 22 Mag....

17 HMR is cheap to shoot, has far superior ammo available, and is deadly accurate. All I ever carry around is my Marlin 17 HHR. Shot holes the size of a pellet gun, with no exit wound. By far the best trapper's gum IMO. THE BEST beaver gun there is 100%.
