Anyone had any luck here off the pier or off the shore? Spent two days fishing for pike and trout, and not even a bite from either. Bait, jigs, spoons, crankbait... no luck, despite officially being stocked and having a 3-pike limit.

Is this a boat-only lake?

That lake has been dead for a few years I believe. Used to have rainbows but runoff from agriculture and Algae blooms have killed it off. Maybe winter kill as well. Shame because its a really nice spot not too far from city with lots of picnic areas and trails to explore.

I stopped fishing there when I started catching several rainbows with growths that appeared to be cancerous, I looked into it and fish and wildlife told me they were parasites that would actually exit after being out of the water for a bit, leaving a crater in the fish. I fished there many years without a hitch, but it change very quickly!!

Was just stocked last week.

Yeah, and I was there Wed/Thu last week without a nibble. 6-8 hour days. Spoons, jigs, bait, cranks. Tried both pike and trout lures.

Anyway, the stories about the tumorous fish someone else had kinda threw me off. Yech.

Doubt there’s pike in there. I know they put a bunch of pike and walleye in there a few years ago. I doubt they made it through the first winter.

The lake has an extremely high water residency time. It’s a great lake for sediment core samples in the winter.... but other than that, since the water residence time is high, Hasse is very susceptible to agricultural runoff and algal blooms. I’m sure this helps cause winter kills. I wish it wasn’t the case!

Used to be really decent there before the perch and sticklebacks took over. Thanks to the @$$ that did that.

Saw that they only stocked 5000, pretty low number for body of water that size - looks like a bit of a trial to me.
