Went out with a member to a couple of little creeks this long weekend and caught some browns and brook on th dry.

No real size to the browns in the first creek as the creek is quite small, 6- 10 inches.
It was more of an educational trip, learned lots about presentation and hiding from the fish.

Didnt really catch any till I clued in about staying a ways back off the creek and keeping my form hidden from the fish.

After that the fish didnt know what hit them, and the fishing was a heck of alot better.

Second creek was harder to fish and there was less fish but it was still fun.
Browns in the 7-8 inch range, one brook.

Moved upstream and wasnt really to into fishing much more, came up on a bigger slow run for the creek wich looked to be a deeper run.

Tossed the dry onto the run and started to let it slowly drift down, I was basically taking a break while still fishing.

Watched a fish slowly come up and sip in the dry fly, not even a roll, a sip.
Set the hook and was in for a suprise.

My rod bent over and line started to strip off my reel, had to palm the reel to slow it down and try to turn it around.
3 or 4 good runs later the fish was ready to be landed.

Buddy netted the fish and I was in shock.
It was a big male Brown, taped at 18.5 inches. the dam thing had a giant head.

Got some pics and a video of the release coming soon.

Going from 8 inch fish to a 18.5 made that fish feel like a giant.

Then just like that, a pressure change due to the incoming storm turned the fish right off.

It was a great day, very informational and educational.

Learning to outsmart browns on the dry was fun and I know I will be back to try and get that big boy again.

Takes a little different mindset when you start to learn to be more patient, reading the water and stalking the fish but when it all comes together it's awesome. It's the bigger fish that barely sips your fly and takes off that shocks the hell out of you compared to the little agressive fish that make loud splashes. Grats on a nice brown, looking forward to the pics.

Trying to learn about more creek and streams around here, did a W&W on the upper Elbow on Sun but do you mind PM'ing me the area you went? Not looking for specifics or even creek names, just a general area so I can go exploring. There's so many areas around but it's not always easy to know what areas have better access. Thx.
