So, went up to Lesser Slave from 28 June - 4 July. Camped at Bayshore Campground at Faust. Nice place, nice people. I picked up a few tubs of frozen minnows, as they always seemed to work well in the past. Before we left, I also made up a couple of leech traps from plastic coffee containers, and trapped about 7 dozen leeches out of our own dugout. I wasn't sure about how well they would work, as some guys had said that certain types weren't the best for fishing. Well, I'm here to tell you that those piggy walleyes in Lesser Slave loved those leeches!! We used a bright orange/chartreuse jig head, put a leech on the hook, and added a chunk of chartreuse grub body as a keeper so that the leech wouldn't wiggle off of the hook. It didn't take long and the bite was on!! After the leeches were all gone, a jig with a white grub body tipped with a frozen minnow worked really well, too.
We only lost one day to weather... some were rougher than others, but if we were on the water, we were catching fish. What an awesome week.
