I took my 7 year old nephew out fishing yesterday on a lake I had never fished before. Nothing fancy about the gear, just a 12 foot boat, a 9.9 hp outboard, and a sonar to help me find a few likely spots. I thought I would share a pic of his success, a healthy 69 cm walleye.

You don’t need all the fancy stuff to have a good time and build memories with someone new to fishing. Hoping this encourages a few to get out there with some newbies and bring them into the sport.

sometimes just keeping it simple is the most fun a fella can have...congrats on the eye and a day well spent with the young fella! Smiles say it all.:)

Nice to see the young fellow out with his uncle and the great fish is the bonus.
I predict in a few years he will be holding up your fish for pics.

I remember as a young boy hunting and fishing with my dad and uncles. Thinking of these times gone by always brings the best memories. I don’t recall the gear so much as the trips.

nice one big fella...were you downrigging walleyes? I used to downrig spinner rigs on a couple lakes the last couple weeks of August for suspended walleye and whitefish. The fish were always so fat and sassy. Didn't get many of them but they were hogs.

Nope, pulling cranks along steep break lines. I was seeing fish suspended around 15 feet over 25-30 FOW.

Took my grandson out for his first walleye last year June. It was a great time!

We all started out small and worked our way up. My first boat was a canoe. Then my bro got a 14' misty river and if I remember correctly, a very old, but still working 5.5 hp engine. You don't need a big brand name boat to catch fish, or have fun doing it! :)

Good Job!

Caught lots over 60 cm's and several over 70 cm's this year so far at Calling Lake. My bro caught this years biggest (so far...lol), approx 77 cm in mid June in about 11' of water :)

If you haven't fished Calling yet, c'mon up next June and maybe you can show us a video of you with a 70+ cm walleye :)

Would love to have a bigger boat but we have used dads 12 ft Sears boat for 50+ years with a 9.9 Evi. That boat has been all over Ab and some trout lakes by Burns Lake in BC. Seen a ton of waves, some nothing, some OMG were gonna die lol.

Looks like a great trip, great fish too, those are the memories your nephew & you will never forget.
