Does anyone know why the SuperDuty Crew Cabs don't come with a passenger airbag deactivation switch like the supercabs and reg cabs do?? Went to take my nephew for a ride in the truck and damned if I could find that switch..lol. Turns out they don't put them in the crew cabs. Anyone have any idea why?

think they have a weight sensor in the seat....my GMC does

It is because the regular/super cab trucks need it so you can put a child's seat in the front passenger seat cause it does not fit in the back. They are asumming that if you have a child that is not supposed to be in the front, due to the airbags and injuries involved in it to children and infants, then there is plenty of room in the back for both small children and infant seats properly.

I know it sucks.
Oh and good luck finding a fully licenced mechanic in a reputable shop to do anything with it too, they won't becuse of possible litigation if something went wrong.

Obviously another case of the manufacturer being smarter than the guy using the unit.:lol: Then they wonder why we don't wanna buy their crap.

Actually I think it's more like the Government knowing what's best for it's citizens.

I would call the dealer and check into it. Because I know some makes, after a certain year put a weight sensor on the passenger seat. So that IF your in an accident and there is noone in that seat then the airbag will not deploy there. My friend told me on her charger (a couple years old) anything under 60lbs will not activate the sensor to turn on. And when we bought our dodge (2007) they said the same thing when I asked about it. That being said.. not sure if I would 100% trust a sensor that is "supposed" to work... My kids are always in the back.

Yup, it's a government regulation. Same reason you can't turn them off in a car. Kids to the back in a crew cab.

I have a few friends who are licensed mechanics back in Ontario who have LEGALLY installed airbag de-activation switches in vehicles while employed at a dealiership. Most of the time it was for very short people who had to keep their seat so far forward that their chest was closer than the recommended 12" from the steering wheel. There were some hoops to jump through for the vehicles owner in that they had to get some special forms from the government and get doctor sign off, then government approval, before the shop would even touch the vehicle. Might be worth looking into in Alberta if someone regularly has a crew cab and more than 3 wee-ones to bring along.

Just pressure wash your cab out, it deactivated the airbags in my 96 f-150.:D

(carpet delete and a muddy may long were the prerequisites for that adventure)
