As Fall approaches I am thinking ahead to what the hard water season will bring. Also got me wondering...over the past years...how has freeze up and thaw out gone...date wise.

For interest sake...here is the data I have collected in Calgary at Lake Sundance.

Ice came off the lake on: April 30, 2009, April 7, 2010, April 23, 2013, April 24, 2014, March 31, 2015, March 28, 2016, April 20, 2017, May 1, 2018, April 19, 2019, April 28, 2020

The lake froze over on: November 19, 2010, November 16, 2011, November 15, 2012, November 14, 2014, November 26, 2016, November 7, 2017, November 19, 2018, missing 2019 date.

Seems fairly consistent...albeit maybe winters looking colder the past few years.

Anyone hazard a guess as to when the lake will freeze over this year?

Hoping to get some of you fine folks out to catch a mess of 7-11 inch perch for a good feed of them tasty beasts...

This is a lake in the City of Calgary, so I'm going with November 23.

There is alot of hot air coming out of Calgary City Hall these days.

Would also love to do some perch. Butter fly best and can eat a ton.
Oh ya maybe this year no ice till January. Hate putting the boat away so soon.

I do not like this thread... I still want to be out on the boat a little bit longer! :( Anyhow if I do not guess it might keep the cold away a little bit longer. :thinking-006:

Ditto. The good fall fishing is just underway. Let's keep the ice in your Scotch and water for the next two months at least!

Me and a buddy filled four buckets of perch the other day. 2 buckets is about 4 lb of fillets.

Average size currently up around 8.5 inches. Most 8-11 inch. Have 1,2 and 3 year old year classes also.

Stocking larger browns this Fall to hopefully eat the smaller perch.
