Irrigation guy caught one in a 330 a couple years ago. Summertime... local fish cop took it away.

Never could make sense of why you would take away a summer otter from a guy. Probly a very good thing they did. Obviously another guy suffering from “Punisher Syndrome”. I wonder if thats worse than 30 year old man syndrome???

Not getting much money $$ for their pelts these days as trappers, many did not even sell in last FHA auction.

Have caught 3 over the years around red deer. Finally let me keep the last one to get mounted.

Lots of otter again this year. I've been doing some beaver control for oil companies and I have to really watch out for the beggars right now. I've saw 9 in the last week. A family of 4 and another of 5. Doesn't look like it will take me long to catch my dozen again this year. I'm trying to send a bunch for tanning but getting the export permit has turned into a bit of a rodeo.

I caught a spring one doing some beaver control for a farmer... told F&W I would happily pay for a permit to tan the hide and save the skull, filled out my incidental catch report... waited months, they took it because the catch was out of otter season. Unfortunate because I bet it wasn’t put to any use.

Lefty it’s an accidental catch and according to bill you should be able to get it returned to you. I followed his advice and had mine returned so that I could get it mounted.

You have no rights to any incidental/accidental catch and it's entirely up to F&W discretion.

Sorry Dave but us trappers do have some right to incidental catches. That right does also teeter on F&W discretions. There are many animals every year given to the trappers. Wether caught out of season or animals caught over a trappers quota.

Yes Mike, many times F&W will allow you to keep the critter but it’s entirely at their discretion and you have no right to keep it. Incidental catches, caught out of season, found dead wildlife (even roadkill deer) belong to the Crown. There is no recourse if they decide that you can’t keep it because you have no right to it.

Your right Dave and this is why so many incidental catches are left in the bush.
