After breaking my trusty trolling rod this weekend, I have decided to try my hand at building my own rod. I have researched online where to find rod blanks, grips, reel seats, guides etc and have no problem finding these items. The key is putting all together...

Does anyone know of any rod building courses or workshops around Edmonton?

I've considered building my own rods as well. I'd likely need some instruction too though. In your research did you determine if it's cheaper in the end to build vs buy a rod of equal quality?

At the end of the day, I think it all depends on the materials. The market is flooded with mass produced “good” rods that are built with adequate materials. I think it is time for something more for myself. I fish alot and I want to use an excellent, unique and durable rod that I built myself... it may cost me a bit more... but then the pride lies in the fact that I made it myself.

If I come across anything I will let you know!
