They are gold infused and have diamond eyes. Haha I wonder where they get these new minnows from?

Better buy minnow traps now before they are sold out in spring!

No problem finding Parker minnows all year....but price has been going up. Most places around here are $8-10/tub. Candle lakes are $7. Stopped at 3 places last weekend looking for hearing though and none to be found. Luckily still have a few packs from last year but those won't last long.

Found a bunch of the evergreen in Rocky yesterday. Pricy as well and have found them pretty mushy in the past but better than nothing so bought a bunch. Anyone been to Sportsmans Den in Red Deer recently? Last time I was there they had a bunch of the good "Campbells Catch" ones.

Still have some leeches left over from the summer but I haven't found them to be as good as minnows in the winter for walleyes.

Fishermen in Manitoba are saying these Emerald Shiners have so much water in each tub that as soon as they are thawed out they turn to mush. So what they do is just half thaw them so they can separate the minnows from the ice, chuck the ice and put the minnow's back in the containers and fill them up with table salt. Beats me as I'm not a fisherman anymore, worth a try with 1 tub I suppose.

You can get herring's and mackerals and stuff at any superstore in the freezer section for way cheaper than what bait shops sell it for. I get my worms and meal worms at pet stores and they are also way cheaper. just a tip ;)

I also found the Evergreen mushy that i bought from Ctire in GP. I will have to salt them if that is all i can get.

Lucky us. My fishing partner was hunting out in Stoon last month and grabbed us a case of Parkers. Oh and at 5.99 a tub too. Still had a half dozen or so Parkers in the freezer so with about 30 or so tubs in my freezer we should be good till spring.

Actually wasnt minnows per say but I prefer Parkers and if available we usually split a case. Opportunity knocked a phone call and done. Funny part he was out to visit a week or so ago and buddy in Stoon cannot get minnows now either.

a great drying method for minnows or smelts is to lay them on a slab of concrete and then flip them on to another part of the concrete. Garage is good if somewhat insulated. If there's a marble fabrication outlet near you, go grab a non-polished piece (usually the opposite side if polished) from their garbage can (ask first),, works really well, or a broad boulder.

if your minnows are borderline ok but might disintegrate with a knock from a fish, take a piece of spaghettini and thread it mouth first into the minnow and break off excess spag, helps keep a nice shape. I did this with some smelts that were near liverwurst in firmness with some fetucini,, sounds crazy but worked like a charm and stopped the wind sock look while gently jigging.
