Just whipped this up today from a $10 pair of skis and a few 2x4s I had lying around. Cant wait to see how she performs tomorrow on the ice

I'll take more pics tomorrow and post them

Anyone else got any rings they'd like to share?

Put a better snow front on your unit, snow will build up on your sled when hauling it on the lake

Go to the Ice Shanty forums and search Smitty sled. It is all there and more than you want to know.

Those look nicer than the skis I ski with...

I would stand another 2x6 underneath the frame, minimum, to keep it out of the snow

With the minimal amount of snow we have you will have no issues this weekend, however, with the amount of snow we had last year and in some areas 2-3" of flood water you'll be making some mod's to jack it up to a high-boy, otherwise you'll be struggling to get out on the ice.

Why not just buy a plastic calving sled probably last you a lot longer

Good points about the snow. I can easily add another 2x6 underneath to raise it and maybe add some sort of plough type assembly. Good idea

I looked at those sleds, but I'm a tight arse. $70 vs $10 is no competition for me. Now I have $60 to spend on groceries when I dont catch any fish :sHa_shakeshout:

Nice sled !

Sometimes it’s fun to just build something yourself isn’t it!

Good luck this season and merry Christmas

Looks good Max. But as others have said, you will need to raise it up a bit sooner rather than later. That’s basically a Smitty sled. Mine made my day a lot more enjoyable hauling the sled uphill to the parking lot.

I actually made it out of a bike rack I made in the summer haha. Talk about repurposing

I am going to have to raise it up. You guys are 100% right about that

She performed well today however

Even caught some supper to boot

Good to see you're getting the trout angling figured out.

Thanks! I've been having great luck the last few times I was there. Today was a bust though. Pulled one little one out as soon as we got there, then pretty much nothing for the rest of the day. They were biting hard for about 20 mins and that was it

Maybe Chain has been overfished now, maybe it was too busy, maybe it was just an anomaly, I dunno

Sled performed well again though haha

Nice little pull behind set up ya got there.

Initially I thought you were going to hook it up to a atv or snowmobile which would be a disaster but if your just pulling it behind you then that's a good looking rig!
