Far and few between hits and misses , lots of little fish but sometimes these hogs get an urge to battle wits with an unalert angler.
Fish here seem to range from 6 inches to 3 feet ,lots of good fish on but barbless single hooks make a tough battle on the anglers behalf.

Sorry guys forgot to mention the fish i held was a buddies , all mine seemed to be in the 10 inch range , but i did loose a few hogs , as well as one i hooked that just gave me enough time to get excited then ,did a head shake and took alot of line and a good hook i liked.:cry:

It sure appears to be a retired brood fish. Fun to battle one in and you can eat em. But in many ways it is like shooting an elk in a game farm. The fish has spent almost its entire life in a concrete pond being fed pellet food. Then it is dumped into a stocked pond and gets caught.
I think OA's big fish contest awarded a prize to a twin lake brood fish some time ago.

I caught one at another Twin Lake (near Pigeon lake) a few years back. I was using a fly rod and a long leader and jiging a little jig for perch. Wow did I get a surprise.

definately one of those old beat up retired broods.
and yes last years angler awards was given to a twin brood.
I guess you could consider all rainbows and lakes in alberta barrell shooting.
not many areas that arent stocked there boys.rivers included, but what do you do stay home , stop buying fishing licenses.. or spend the time in the outdoors and enjoy catching something for some fun and enjoy yourself.

all mountain park and mountain lakes are stocked and how about the introduction of the grayling in the k country mountain lakes and streams , is this barrell shooting also , or i guess shooting elk that have been raised in elk island and released in ram area is different , we dont consider that an elk farm anymore.:huh:
Its about being out there and enjoying it .,
PS they may be raised in tanks but they are not easy to catch.
we spent 4 days camped and fishing all day and up until dark , i have had better luck in the bow which is not an easy fish by any means.

8 inchers may not be much, but i'd rather catch them all day than catch nothing...headed to sibbald today in hopes of catching a couple more 2 pounders...

Its deffinately more fun catching 8,s than nothing for sure , chain was endless action every time i,ve gone there with the mrs and the youngens, all kinds of fun ,speaking of fish in a barrell.
Baitfisher are you refering to sibbald lake or the area of sibbald on the bow.

i'm talking about sibbald meadows pond, about 10 minutes away from the lake, may try the lake next week not sure yet...was so windy today didnt manage too many hits but one was a good size...hoping for a nice clearn windless day next week..lol ya right, around the mountains..:lol:
