I can't find anything about these regs online, but 2 f&w members kicked my buddy and his daughter off today, saying there is no fishing there in winter. Regs say open year round, anyone know where I can find actual information on this pond?

well considering the whole pond is surrounded by snow fencing to keep people off the ice i would assume its closed.

Is it posted?

Or is the snow fence just an assumed barrier only the locals know about?

i havent been there, but whenever i drive by in the winter time the entire lake is surrounded by snow fence. no gaps in it from what i can see from the road.

best bet to see if it is open is call Len Thompson.

• Len Thompson Trout Pond

The Len Thompson Trout Pond offers a stocked pond trout fishing experience right in the city of Lacombe. This public access pond is geared especially for young anglers, who can get there on foot or by bicycle within the city (vehicle access & parking also provided). The pond is stocked annually with 2000+ fish, is aerated, and is open for year-round access. It's also the site of the annual Youth Fishing Day each June. The pond is sponsored by the Lacombe Fish & Game Association, Thompson-Pallister Bait Company (makers of Len Thompson Lures right here in Lacombe), and the City of Lacombe, with additional support from the Alberta Conservation Association.

Likely the answer is in a later session or a call to them will get you an answer.

“It was constructed as a stormwater retention pond to serve a fairly large area in Lacombe, and it is also equipped with continuous aeration throughout the year, hence the reason that it is fenced off and kept safely out of reach of children over the winter months. Since the aeration has been installed, the winter kill has been extremely low,” explained Grant Creasey.

Town says Alberta regs control access.

Fish cops may falsely infer fence is closure versus just to keep unsupervised kids out.

Makes sense..safety first...perhaps signage around it if not already done....
