There are actually a fair amount of rainbows, with most of them congregating at the north end like this one. I’ve caught several further down the system over the years but I’d call those ones rare. I’ve never kept one but friends that have said they are muddy tasting so good call on throwing it back, for a bunch of readons. I have caught one brown trout here and seen another caught. You gotta love surprises like that.

If there weren't so many dink walleyes eating up the food I'd bet it would be a great trout fishery.

The rainbows spawn in the canal On a gravel bed by the big drop structure. In the days of the summer derbies, 20+ years ago, trout was a category and usually 5+ were entered.

Cool video. I appreciate the story about drilling holes in the wrong spots, hitting rocks and stuff like that ...... stuff we all do sometimes - so it's far more entertaining when you get "real life" like that.

I was thinking the bite offs may have been pike. The little ones have sharp teeth and slice mono line like butter.

You can try some fluorocarbon LEADER material next trip - that will help prevent those bite offs.

Just make sure it's specifically leader material - not line ...
