Yup! Had one killed in front of the neighbours house this morning.
It was a small deer, it must have been a hell of a battle though. I checked the deer and the throat was completely crushed. I’ve seen it in YouTube but this is a lot closer to home.

Looks like a move of desperation.

It’s pretty risky for the cat I’m sure.

That's a cool find. Normally, I would have thought that to be pretty much a high risk proposition for a small cat, but then again, it's a cat .... they can be pretty bold.

Even though I know others on this forum will say otherwise.....It is common for Bobcats to take out Deer.
NOT so common for Lynx though.

:thinking-006:

When it comes to identifying a cat as a lynx, it's not the eyes that have it, but the ears. The lynx is known by the tuft of black hair on the tips of its ears and its short or bobbed tail. In fact, one species of lynx is called a bobcat! ... Long legs and a short tail are other traits that link a cat to the lynx group
Lynx: mammals of the family Felidae. They are considered a medium-sized cat. There are four living species of lynx across the globe: the Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis), Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus), Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx), and bobcat (Lynx rufus)

:thinking-006:

What came first the Lynx or the bobcat:)

A lynx is rather docile compared to a lynx.
I’d rather be locked in a phone booth with a lynx.

Fixed it for you

I have a pile of info on Lynx. Was going to raise them back in the early 80s. Life changed....

The (large) book I have from the Lynx farm I was going to get them from has a pile of info.
I even copied it & sent (free of charge) to Dirt Willy (he raised them). It had a pile of info he was not aware of.

Neat thing about that farm (not Willy's) was their daughter raised one from new born. It ran loose with their dogs & would run out with them to greet visitors !

Respectfully............but why would anyone want to raise Lynx ??
Assuming mother natures job ?? is the incentive to profit from fur or is it a conservation thing where they are released ?
Please pardon my ignorance on this......I just don't get it , and do not like it.

Any different than raising fish. Which can be raised to boost stocks, provide sport, or feed family’s.
If raised for fur it won’t affect natural numbers. Might drive the value of pelts down though if the practice of lynx farming catches on.
I don’t see too drastic of negatives. Could be though.

Fur farms have been around a very long time.

Curious, what your thoughts are on farms with Bison ? Stock yards with cows ? etc

I'm an Alberta redneck and i eat both Bison and beef and deer, elk , moose.
I just like seeing Lynx in the wild and i have seen many in the Fort Nelson area. A cool stealth hunter and survivor of brutal winters. If i saw 100 of them all caged up just for their hides i would probably puke. JMHO

I am with you on this Ackleyman. Is it even egal in Canada? Breed and kill wildlife predators? Where the f.. officers protecting wildlife?
It’s worse than Zoo and I can not imagine it could be in Canada- the most loving country to everybody where even terrorists treated like kids with bad behaviour

Mink have been farmed for a very, very long time & they're very effective predators. Fox too.
