Not sure if anyone heard about the earthquake swarm in Iceland that is said to be a precursor for an eruption.

Greta going to go crazy, as CO2 & SO2 (maybe little heavy) enter Sweden atmosphere. Can Sweden penalize Iceland for this large influx of nastiness.....

Depending on the height and thickness of the ash plume, we could sure be in for cooler summer, much colder winter.

If it blows it will be interesting.

So, conceivably, Iceland could lose access by air ?

Last time it happened they had to close most of Europe due to the ash in the air for months.

Depends upon

How long it erupts
How much ash is produced
Which way the winds blow
How much ash stays aloft
Which way an ash cloud/plume goes

It has closed down air travel over Iceland an Europe before

I was thinking physical destruction of the airport, that would be a real Bummer.

The listed active volcanos are not at the airport. The earthquake swarm is between the airport and Reykjavik.

It’s a cool drive. Amazing scenery there.

Walking around the lava flows on the route to Reykjavik from the airport was surreal. Amazing to see lava as you walk around the lava field in BC or Idaho. The Big Island of Hawaii reminded me of Iceland but without the warmth. I filled up a ton of camera memory in Iceland. Also got to catch Atlantic salmon and Arctic char there.

It would be cool to be there when a small volcano starts fountaining lava.

There were some volcanos we weren’t allowed to hike to because they erupt violently without warning.

Such a cool place to visit. Just damned expensive.

Tourism is all Iceland has (thank European Union for opening a entry to EU in Iceland. Iceland 🇮🇸 Became major hub, to shorten lines in London, Frankfurt. Iceland has fishing. Fairly self sustainable with geothermal heat on surface coming from volcanic island. Creates its own energy, hot water systems. Covid, imagine pretty quiet. For small country they charge lots $$$ for everything. Mind you 3-5 days is all you need for Iceland. Hard believe a country population size of Saskatoon, can produce a world class soccer team, rivals top 10 world. Canada 🇨🇦 cannot qualify for World Cup.

We spent 2 weeks there and could have easily spent 2 more and still not have seen everything that we would have liked to see.
I guess if you just stay in Reykjavik and visit the Blue Lagoon then 5 days would be plenty.

We went for 12 days and drove around the whole island. Some places had their own little hot springs which was so cool...I mean hot.

One thing I noticed was food was good everywhere. Gas station food was of a high quality. Still... everything was $$$$.

We spent most of the 2 weeks in the Westfjords.
Didn't even do the ring road except South to Vik.
Dining out was expensive but we found grocery store prices to be reasonable and campgrounds were cheap. No fires though since there are no trees to burn.
Gas @ over $2/L was expensive, this was like 10 years ago.

We found most little towns had their own heated pools. But the best ones were the ones just off the side of the road like the one above.

but we found grocery store prices to be reasonable and campgrounds were cheap.

Not so much anymore. 2 years ago the grocery bill for 2 people for 12 days was $1000 dollars and campgrounds were $50/night for a piece of grass with guy lines crossing each other - 50 - 60 tents on the grass pad and one washroom. The cheapest meal we ate out was KFC - Two 2 pc. meals with small fries and small drink for $50.

Most medium priced restaurants we went to a few years back worked out to $100 cdn for an entree and a water. Small wine glass was $19 cdn. A beer was over $20.

But food everywhere was excellent compared to Canada. Even gas station burger and fries was great.

Restaurant workers are all paid well. No tipping is nice.

That's too bad to hear.
When we went in 2012 we often had the campgrounds to ourself or occasionally just a couple other tents. If I remember correctly it was only $10/15 per night.

How is an eruption going to affect Canada, and our Carbon tax.

Is the present tax going to be enough to control an eruption lasting longer than 4 hours?

I know the carbon tax can control weather all over the world, but I have reservations about it being able to stop this eruption.

There seem to be a few others waking up, after being dormant for a long time. One has to wonder, is something major on a world wide scale, about to happen ?

“Iceland is known as the Land of Fire & Ice. Volcanic activity is escalating in a region that has not erupted for 800 years. Ever since the turn on the Economic Confidence mode on January 18th, 2020, that very Monday, January 21st, earthquakes began on the Reykjanes peninsula. Reykjavik has experienced more than 8,000 earthquakes and about 10cm of land uplift due to magma intrusions underground which is raising the land itself. This region is waking up with the last eruption about 800 years ago (though there have been more recent eruptions offshore). Geological evidence shows the area is fed by five volcanic systems, which seem to come to life in a coordinated way roughly every 1,000 years.
There are approximately 130 volcanoes in Iceland, active and inactive. However, there are about 30 active volcanic systems that can be found under the island, in all parts of the country except the Westfjords region, which is the oldest part of Iceland’s landmass formed around 16 million years ago. The volcanism of Iceland comes from the fact that the country sits directly across the Mid Atlantic Ridge. This ridge separates the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, and Iceland is one of the few places on earth that it can be seen above sea-level”. Martin Armstrong

No need to be confused. Volcanoes contribute to global cooling. The ash blocks the sun, which reduces heat absorbed by sun. This causes crop failure, food shortages, famine. The volcanic activity is picking up worldwide. Watch the prices of your goods, services. Notice everything is becoming more expensive, smaller packaging, etc.
