Pick up if you buy , their shipping costs are out of this world.

I bought a take down bow last auction and they charged $54.00 to mail it to me.

For those that may be interested.....

-5% GST;
-10% buyers fee to a maximum $1,000;
-4% CC fee, but can only pay a max $500.00 on the CC.

So, for a $800.00 bid, you're paying a minimum $920.00.

Normal auction fees anymore, Wards is
- 5% GST
- 15% buyers fees
- 3% credit card fee

So an $800 item costs $984 plus shipping, but guys love auctions, such good deals :thinking-006:

I'm told auction companies have come to love on line auctions and we won't be going back.

They charge 10-25% to the seller, another 10-15% to the buyer.

No more (junk) auctions for me.

I can buy new or online and negotiate, why pay these premiums for other people's junk they can't sell?

It's funny talking to auctioneers about this, they have no staff and no overhead like for a live auction, but whining about not making any money.

I am watching the GP RB auction right now, some trucks are going cheap! And only 2800 people online.

Funny, I went looking at this auction for guns but am currently sitting on a bid for something completely unrelated. Even with those fees if I win at my current bid it'll be a small fraction of what I'd pay elsewhere. Appreciate the heads up though, some auctions are worse than others, and less upfront about those costs.

I chatted with a manager at a local auction and he essentially said the same thing.

I suggested they'd be losing money, as guys could pull the item up on one screen and see what it cost new on the other, set their proxy bid a 90% of new, so with fee's they aren't paying more than new, and let her buck. Not getting caught up in the moment with the emotion/pressure of bidding on items live. I was told this isn't the case, he's making more than ever. Part of it I'm sure, is that he can run the entire auction by himself. Walks around taking pictures for a week, posts them the next week, and lets the internet do the work, doesn't have to pay anyone but himself.

Guess just because some of us miss the gun shows we look at auctions instead. Most of us calculate the BP and gst into our bids and are not looking for what we can go buy in a retail store. Found a box of ammunition that hasnt been made for 40 years and paid $1. a cartridge as I wasnt going to find them anywhere else. also paid up for handmade Quebec trapper snowshoes that havent been made for over 30 years and were in mint condition so didnt mind paying $55 to ship. Maybe it is just me but I still see a few deals but yes some will bid too high. Caveat emptor

At the last gun auction they had, someone got a hell of a deal on a mislabeled browning bt100.
(Sadly, wasn't me)

I am amazed at the prices guns bring at auction. Do these people not know about ao, cgn, gun post and townpost? The guns probably go for more than used gun stores would charge.

It's crazy huh? Most times with the buyers fee and GST the buyer ends up paying more than new cost.

People really like paying retail prices on auction items. I saw 3 trigger locks for 30$

It seems guns and gun items are always bringing higher than premium prices. Deals can be found for other online auction items though.

I suspect there is some "motivated" bidding going on so if you get caught up in the bidding frenzy you may own it at an artificially inflated price. as always caveat emptor. sorry I posted the sale now!
