Hello all, we’re possibly going to be in the cold lake area for may long weekend, just wondering when the lake is usually ice free and fishable?

Most years it is good to go. This year should be even earlier with little snow and warmer so far.

I've been going there for years on opening and often there is ice on the main lake but enough open water in most of the bays anyways. Also had the pleasure of being there on a couple occasions where it was solid ice in the middle and impassable to the north of the bays on Friday and wide open by Sunday AM - when it goes - it goes quick.

That was a fun year for sure.

This year May long is May 24 weekend so you should be good to go.
