Has anyone been on or near the highwood pass recently?

Specifically I am referring to the 'closed' section of the road

I want to take the kids there to ride bikes on the road, but wondering if it is still covered in snow

Pretty sure it's closed to vehicle traffic until June 1st, not sure about bikes or foot traffic.

Phone the Eden valley gas bar. They are near (just east) and will be most accurate help.

The satellite photos show the road covered with snow from the gates to the pass in both directions. I have ridden from the gates to the pass in June and the road was blocked with snow, some years it is not clear on the May long weekend.

Beautiful road to bike before it opens to motor vehicles, a true gem. Another amazing bike ride on a closed road is Edith Cavell in Jasper park.

Highwood is typically snow covered until mid-April. Sometimes later.

Bring bear spray, and enjoy the views!

The satellite photos show the road covered with snow from the gates to the pass in both directions. I have ridden from the gates to the pass in June and the road was blocked with snow, some years it is not clear on the May long weekend.

That satellite photo is unlikely to have been taken yesterday.

It could be 4+ years old.

I believe it's actually June 15 the gates open. If you go to the south end, be aware there can be lots of vehicles vandalized there

South end always clear quite a bit before north end, not sure how fair it’s clear from there right now but should be enough for a decent bike ride ! There is also a group of sheep that is almost always on the hill just north of the closure gate , then a couple Kms further along the hw can often see elk on the open hills to the east
