Over a 7 year span up to 2018 there were 45 confirmed cases of histoplasmosis in Alberta. 15 cases were locally acquired. People who maintain bat roosts, bird nesting boxes and bird feeders might consider proper masks and gloves for clean ups. Mist the area with a water bleach solution before disturbing droppings, to keep the dust down.

Have a friend who nearly died from this. Bird feeders. At the end of the season she cleaned up the acculated bird droplings from under an elevated deck. It took a few days to diagnose the problem and she got very sick. Never fully recovered. She lives in a care home now.

Good question but i dont know. Theyived on a rural.property in the Kootenys near Slocan. Lovely landscaped garden and she was very fond of birds, hence the feeders. Lot of humming birds.

A million things to worry about out there, just be careful. Burnt toast can cause cancer, they tell me. :D
