Read a few articles actually publicizing that the population is up and thriving in Alberta.

Wonder if we will get to hunt them again......

Better odds winning 6/49 than seeing a season on Grizzly bears .

It was a political decision to end the grizzly hunt in Alberta, and I doubt any politician will have the intestinal fortitude to reverse it.

Any real and credible scientific study/project would have an end goal. So, what is it? How will we know where the goal line is?

we may never see a grizzly hunt in this province again. Too bad. So many where we hunt sheep. That would be a cool experience!

I would be a happy man if I could hunt spring grizzly in the Rockies again

But sadly I have no faith in a hunt starting up again

Yep, me too.

Last hunt I had (not successful), was NW of Manning many moons ago.

Still good memories...

I very much doubt that we will ever see a grizzly hunt in Alberta, the numbers could reach 5000, and it won't matter, it's about politics, not wildlife management. I am glad I went to B.C to hunt grizzly, before they closed the season there.

Didn’t everyone say there would never be a goat season in Alberta a few years ago.

Enough innocent people get ate , there might be a season under a non NDP government.

There aren't a lot of people protesting the goat hunt, unlike the grizzly hunt.

Was that just relisted recently or has that been visible the whole time? Could be a sign if it was re added.

Where do you see 2021 summaries? I only see 2020. And if G Bear were displaying I should see 7 points but I don't see it listed. Could it have anything to do with April 1...

If enough farm critters get ate, they might open something up in the Ag areas,
The SSS draw, shoot, skin and shut up,
Never know,

For sure. At the very least to be able to take care of nuisance bears without getting raked over the coals.

There should have 2 tags available for every grizzly management unit
They should be targeting old mature cub killing boats or problem bears that are pointed out by game wardens or bios
No reason why this can’t be done
Just need someone with some balls to make the call

I don’t think the old grizzly priorities are around
The draw system has changed hands too many times to think that the data is still available

You would have to make the application price around $1500-$2000
To discourage the antis from flooding the draw system more than they do now

This ^^^^^

And on top of that, why not have a handful of grizz tags that are auctioned off at a ridiculous price? Then take the money and put it all towards conservation efforts

Absolutely, problem is that the conservation community has not kept up with public education as fast as the anti's

If there were real efforts to tell people what Grizzles do to the other populations of animals it could sway public opinion in time.

The anti’s just lie and spread it through social media and junk outlets like the CBC

Then we have to fight tooth and nail to prove what the truth is

Always a step behind

That's why an accurate count of predators in areas and accounts from bios is needed.

Can be done on the cheap from drones.

The bios couldn’t count them correctly in the first place
That’s why it was shut down

Drones only fly for 30 min and they aren’t very good looking into trees

Maybe if enough farmers and ranchers complained about their encroachment and loss of animals, they may bend? This being said, I guess I cannot comment on how many are lost to them other than on this forum, who have shared their intel.

Your priority is an imaginary stat. Not sure of your age, but myself at 49, the way our snowflake society is heading, I will not see the hunt ever opened again in my lifetime.

Do you think that the government actually wants this to happen? If the actual numbers came out and showed a huge increase, there would be even more pressure to open a season, and they could no longer claim that the numbers are too low for a hunt, which is a convenient way to avoid having to deal with the political arguments.

Government estimates tend to be conservative. if they claim double, chances are triple is probably more accurate.

They could have had a pretty accurate count and probably did. It just didn't fit their agenda so they ignored them preferring conjured up numbers to fit that agenda. Stopping the hunt was a political move, had nothing to do with sensible management.

From my understanding it was a poorly done count because the spent there efforts in poor grizzly habitat and little time in prime areas

Either way it was viewed as a questionable count back then

Very true and our toughest premier (Klein) was the one who cancelled it under pressure.
It would be great, but I can’t see it happening.

I dunno fellas you very well might be right that grizzlies have become way to politicized for a future hunt but a video Jason Nixon posted to his facebook page recently gives me the notion that maybe, just maybe there is a chance.

There is no mention of a hunt and I'm reading between the lines a bit.

I think if there were ever a chance at a hunt again this would be the environment minister to go through with it, so maybe take some time and send him an email.

I'd love to see a hunt happen even if I don't ever get to hunt them.

What is a sustainable number for the hunt to be reopened again? Also how many tags should there be. With so many government cutbacks I’m guessing there is a lot less money now available for research and studies of bear numbers. It’s easy to blame the bios but I’m sure they don’t have an easy job. Also I’m sure where bears threaten livestock the farmers have their own way of dealing with the problem. They won’t be waiting to call local authorities to come check out the situation.

The fact that Kenny has no money $$, he is looking for ways to save $$, like firing nurses. F & W spend alot of money dealing with problem grizz these days. Kenny could change it from expense to revenue stream by allowing a modest hunt with fairly expensive license draw.
We have Way to many grizz for limited wilderness now in Alberta.
