I run 3 augers over the hard water season, put my StrikeMaster Lazer 10" with Milwaukee M18 away at the end of January. Cleaned it up sharpen the blades, centre point, wiped some oil on the cutting edge, put it to sleep.

Changed the oil on the Eskimo HC 40 - 10" Propane, cleaned the plug & air filter, touched up the red paint, sharpened the blades & centre point & wiped them down with oil. This unit has lots of torque, the weld repair is solid, always starts on first pull, only used 3 propane cylinders fishing 2-3 days a week during Feb/March. Next season check the blade bolts are snug & ready to go.

Sharpened & honed the blades on my 5" Mini Ice Berg auger. I use this little auger just for my camera to find a GPS spot-on-spot. It's slick with my Clam Plate & M18 drill, cut's through 30" ice in less than 10 seconds & cuts 40-50 holes on 5 amp battery.

Dad always said .... look after your equipment & it will look after you. Don't leave your auger maintenance till next season, nothing more frustrating when your equipment lets you down.

For the Two Stroke crowd, dump out most of the gas in the auger, add some sea foam, and a small amount of 2 stroke oil to compensate the sea foam for fuel / oil mixture, fire it up and run it out of gas. The sea foam will clean up the carb jets nicely, and with no gas left, the carb will not gum up like it would if it had a tank of stale gas in it all summer long.

You’re using the right oil there Zip. Amsoil is the best of the best.

Just buy a brand new 10" Eskimo Shark Z51 and never open it, or use it like I did ! No maintenance, no muss nor fuss !

You will both be spent when you when you drop another $400+ on 2 new batteries in a few years just to keep it turning because the old ones don't hold a charge anymore. To each there own.

My strikemaster came with 2 batteries.....if I even get 5 years out of 1 battery (which is on the light side) then it's worth it to not ever have to mess with fuel and all the other inherent problems that come with gas augers. I ran a jiffy gas for 10+ years and it was a real good unit....but I'll never put a gas auger in my hand again after having electric for the last few years.

yup....and my backup is a hand auger just in case....all equipment gets put away ready to go for the next season....checked a month before just to ensure no surprises pop up.

Cannot be done. I have taken a set of 8" to 3 different shops who claimed they could sharpen them. Wrong, unless they have a cnc machine even tho you could shave the hair off your arm when they finished it still will not cut.

Fsn Hole always have both 8 and 10 lazer mag blades in stock. I always keep a spare set in case I sand out. 80 bucks for s new set of 8 but I did get 4 seasons out of my last set before I sold the gas auger and the guy who bought it is still using the same blade.

And, the other items mentioned in the attachment from Strike Master.

My 30 yr old 8 inch Jiffy gets the fuel drained, ran till the carb is empty, couple drops of oil down the spark plug hole and pulled to lube the cylinder. New gas with a touch of seafoam next season. Still runs good. I don't do anything with the blade.

Pleased to see a few good recommendations on gas auger care & maintenance recommendation.

My 4th auger is a 30+ year old Jiffy Model 30-10" that still works but it's retired in my shed.

Perhaps I have toooo many augers for a part time hard water hobby.

Look after your equipment fellas ....

Cheers
