So took the drive down to Chain with the hopes of a trout or two. This is the Chain west of Nanton

Water is at least 20 to 25 ft. from the end of the launch. And the small launch no. of the out houses is also not accessable.

Don't know how long it is going to take to bring the lake back up but if anyone is thinking of putting their boat in do not waste your time and money on the drive. On another note at least 50 plus fishn from shore. And very busy around the store and play ground.

Plus side F&W was checking every one.

Chain Lakes Res.? On 22x?
Was there around 4:30 on the 17 Saturday. All washroom open (used 2) Portion iced up north of boat launch. South by dam open and further north open as seen from highway.

There was large group between boat launch and iced up portion each looked to have a limit of trout and some suckers they were keeping. In less then 2 hours got 3 rainbows and lost one more close to shore on various spinners. Father got a white fish on worm.

On way out about 6:30 water looked like it was boiling with so many rises.

What time were you there?

Don't know what Chain Lake you were at but there is no ice on the lake and the water level is a minimum 20ft. from the end of the boat launch. I was there on sat. Ap 17 and left at 1pm temp was 20

Chain Lakes Prov. Park. West of Nanton on 22.

Same lake. Don't know difference of ice but sat. views show ice where I saw it.

Don't know what views you look at but the lake is ice free north to south. I drove north to Longview from the south end. Maybe you are looking at some out dated satelite pics. But NO ICE on that lake.

We are going to have to agree to disagree. But check out his sat view. Exactly what it looked like to me.

Hmmmm, Think I figured it out. You were at the other boat launch a little further south. You could not see the ice from there. Other boat luanch by were I was people were putting in boats from the side of the ramp (not the concrete part which was to high). Part you can see from highway further north was open.

i was also at that launch and no way you could launch a boat that was on a gtrailer. Sure some tinny and inflatables were launching but not any boat that had to be on a trailer

Fished the south end of the reservoir on April 21 and landed a bunch of 8"er's. Most fell for a #8 Golden Stone bead head nymph but I'm sure any nymph that size would work.
Most were within 10 meters of shore.
All open water now.

I was there on on Wednesday too lol. Fishing from around the day use area. Lots of small ones and 3 little bigger left overs from last year. For those spin casters I totally 13 on various panther martin spinners mostly size 6. You can let them sink to bottom without snagging if you want.

Lee were you the gentleman with float tube?

Yes I was in fact! Were you the guy with the hat (like everyone else except me and my wife) that was by the boat launch and we chatted intermittently?

Too funny! Yeah that was me. I don't think you recognized me latter when I pulled up in my red dodge ram over by the dam.

Nice to meet you, again.

Haha, no I didn't recognize you when in your truck, your hat was off. lol

Glad you caught some fish and maybe we will cross paths again. Take care.

Chain lakes was fun today. No crowd. Just the dog, myself, and the wild life at the south end. Plenty of bites. 1 10” for the pan.

If you're talking about Chain Lakes Reservoir, west of Nanton / High River, it's in zone ES1. There are also Chain Lakes near Ponoka, in zone PP2.
