New to sturgeon fishing, the kids are bugging me to go when the season opens next week. Is it too early to go for them? The river level is very low. Just wondering if a person should wait for the snow to start melting and raise the level? Thanks for your advice.

You can catch them on opening day, but won't be big numbers yet. Use the river level app and go crazy when the water level starts to rise rapidly. How far south? Usually get a few opening day in Lethbridge area

We are thinking of going in the Lethbridge area.

Went down there today. It's crazy low. Much lower than opening day the last few years. Doubt many, if any will be caught opening day

I had my opening day this morning, slow start and the river extremely low. No dinos for me but I did manage to land 14 nice Silver Redhorse, they fight great even on heavier gear. Hopefully the runoff starts pretty quick and fills up the rivers

We tried the river on the 8th. It was very very low, near record lowest level.
Our main target was Walleyes, but only land 1 legal size one.
Caught 19 Sturgeon over the night. 3 largest were 120cm 110cm and 105cm.

So strange the big fish could stay in low level water but smaller fish won't swim up.

Went out twice around Lethbridge, a bunch of suckers and that’s it.
